DVD, DivX, Video, TV  
[DivX for Linux]  - DivX for Linux includes a set of shared libraries that enable the encoding and decoding of DivX video on Linux. Also included in the software package is API documentation that allows developers to use the DivX software in their applications.
[DVDRTOOLS - DVDRECORD]  - is a fork of cdrtools, with the primary goal of supporting writable DVD drives. dvdrtools is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) v2.
[Cdrecord] / [Cdrecord-ProDVD]  - Cdrecord allows you to create CD's on a CD-Recorder. Cdrecord-ProDVD supports CD-R(W), DVD-R and DVD-RW with all known DVD- writers. Version 2.01a11 and newer support DVD+R/DVD+RW in addition.
[DVD+RW/+R for Linux]  - This site is not about video. The scope of this page is computer storage applications, things like backup, archiving, data exchange... The downloadable files are an optional Linux 2.4 kernel DVD+RW patch and a couple of user-land utilities dubbed as dvd+rw-tools.
[X-CD-Roast]  - allows even the unexperienced user to create or copy a CD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW with a few mouse clicks in a intuitive and nice looking GUI.
[transcode]  - The "Linux Video Stream Processing Tool" is a linux text-console utility for video stream processing, running on a platform that supports shared libraries and threads.
[AcidRip]  - is an automated front end for MPlayer / Mencoder written in Perl, using Gtk::Perl for a graphical interface. Makes encoding a DVD just one button click.
[dvd::rip]  - is a Perl Gtk+ based DVD copy program build on top of a low level DVD Ripping API, which uses the "Linux Video Stream Processing Tool" transcode.
[KWinTV / QtVision]  - is a KDE application that allows you to watch television on your GNU/Linux box running KDE. The application is being rewritten with a whole new structure and lots of new features.
[LinuxTV]  - This website is a platform for the development of open source software for digital television (DVB, DTV) receivers, Linux DVD players and tools to stream audio and video to the net.
[xawtv]  - is a small suite of video4linux related software. xawtv can handle both v4l1 and v4l2 interfaces. It does also support the Xvideo extention (XFree86 4.0) and the FreeBSD / OpenBSD bktr driver.
[Xawdecode]  - is a fork of xawtv that allows you to watch TV and make use of plugin extensions. It interacts with AleVT for Teletext and Nxtvepg for NextView, and uses the video4linux API.
[Zapping]  - is a TV viewer for the Gnome desktop. With Zapping and a TV card you can watch TV, take screenshots, and record video and audio. Zapping has a Teletext viewer built in and supports Closed Caption and Teletext subtitles. Got a remote control? Zapping supports LIRC too.
[Kmediagrab]  - is a front end to some of mplayer/ mencoder features. In detail it grabs audio/ video from a DVD , a Tv video card and translate a video file from one format to another. It's intended for the medium user who wants to use its video card as a vi.
[VLC]  - (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.
[MPlayer]  - is a movie player for LINUX. It plays most MPEG, VOB, AVI, OGG / OGM, VIVO, ASF / WMA / WMV, QT / MOV / MP4, FLI, RM, NuppelVideo, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files.
[Xine]  - is a free, gpl-licensed video player for unix-like systems. xine plays videos synchronizing the playback of image and audio.
[libdvdcss]  - is a simple library designed for accessing DVDs like a block device without having to bother about the decryption.
[MpegTV]  - MPEG Movie and VCD Player for Linux and Unix.
[Video Disk Recorder (VDR)]  - describes how to build your own digital satellite receiver and video disk recorder.
[Network-Integrated Multimedia Middleware (NMM)]  - provides an architecture that allows to create distributed multimedia application easily: local and remote multimedia devices or software components can be controlled transparently and integrated into a common multimedia processing flow graph. NMM is implemented in C++, and distributed under the LGPL.
[Multimedia-Box]  - is based on NMM and provides an integrated and extensible software solution for a networked Multimedia Home-Entertainment Center running on a Linux- PC. Following features are available: CD/DVD-Player, CD/DVD-Grabber with transcoding, TV (analog or digital) plus time-shifting, Video recorder functionality and Electronic Program Guide, remote-control, etc.
[Freevo]  - is an open-source home theatre PC platform and a number of open-source audio/video tools. Freevo can be used both for a standalone PVR computer with a TV+remote, as well as on a regular desktop computer using the monitor and keyboard.
[MythTV]  - is a homebrew PVR project. It's been under heavy development for over a year, and is now quite useable and featureful. Pre-compiled binaries are available for a number of distributions.
